Possible futures: Learning, teaching and assessment in the age of AI

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence raised both concerns and substantial hype in education. Now, well over a year since the emergence of ChatGPT in late 2022, much more is understood about both the opportunities and challenges AI brings to learning, teaching and assessment. Drawing on emerging research and practice, this session will focus on what may lie ahead for education in the age of AI. There is a lot of uncertainty about the ongoing development of AI technologies. This uncertainty provides clues about what educational systems and practice need to emphasise now and into the future as machines become more capable (or not).
